Westnewton was selected as a potentially suitable site for a wind energy development for a number of key reasons:
- Strong wind resource supported by on site measurement
- Sufficient set back from properties
- No local or national ecological or landscape designations
- Existing electricity line with capacity runs adjacent to site
- Feasible transport access
- Scope for farm diversification
- Does not impact on the operation of civilian or military airfields, radar installations or flight routes
