Why Westnewton
The Westnewton Wind Farm is located on arable farmland between the villages of Westnewton and Aspatria in Cumbria. The land, owned by a local farmer, is suitable for a wind farm due to the extensive wind resource available. The results from an on site anemometry mast has provided wind data which confirms the suitability of the site. If turbines are erected the land can continue to be used for farming.
The site is suitable for the following reasons:
- Strong wind resource supported by on site measurement
- Sufficiently set back from properties
- No local or national ecological or landscape designations
- Existing electricity line with capacity runs adjacent to site
- Feasible transport access
- Scope for farm diversification
